David Allen Spink

David Allen Spink, 56 year old Barstow resident passed away at Loma Linda University Medical Center on January 9, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 19, 1965 in Barstow, California to Walthal Linton Spink III and June Elizabeth Elder. David received his elementary and high school education in Barstow, graduating in June of 1984. He attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho for one semester. Because of his love for Jesus Christ and the deep and abiding testimony he had of the Savior’s redeeming love for him, David chose to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was called to serve in the Boise Idaho Mission where he labored for eighteen months. After returning to Barstow, David met the love of his life Colleen Ruth Sessions and after a six month courtship they were married in the Idaho Falls Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on December 20, 1988. They made their home in Barstow and David began working for Culligan Soft Water Company while holding down several other jobs at the same time. In 1995 David and Colleen purchased the Handy Car Wash on Main Street in Barstow and retained ownership of the business until his death. In 1990 he joined the Barstow Fire Department and worked his way up through the ranks as a paid call firefighter. He attended the Fire Academy at Victor Valley College in 1991 and after graduation retuned to the Barstow Fire Department as a full-time firefighter. David and Colleen were blessed in their lives with the adoption of a son whom they named Dallen Lincoln Spink deciding on the name by combining parts of David’s first and middle names. Dallen chose to follow in his father’s footsteps and after completing his paramedic training and graduating from the Fire Academy at Victor Valley College in 2020 and he was hired by the Barstow Fire Department as a firefighter/paramedic. He loved working for Barstow Fire Department and loved his job so much that he volunteered for extended duty and overtime. David worked as a firefighter for a number of years before he determined to prepare himself to become an engineer. He took the required course work and was then certified as a firefighter/ engineer and was then promoted to the rank, of engineer within Barstow Fire Department. At the time of his death he was working as a fire fighter/engineer. He would continue to serve his Savior, Jesus Christ through his life by accepting callings to serve within his ward and stake. He was a counselor in a bishopric, ward clerk, and stake executive secretary along with other responsibilities throughout his life. His testimony of the divinity of Jesus Christ never wavered and he was faithful and true to his covenants and beliefs. David had numerous hobbies and outside interests. He was a life long learner and loved reading and learning about how things worked and/or were operated. He loved gardening, the out doors, scuba diving, sky diving, and particularly liked to have their swimming pool filled with family, friends, or school children. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed quad riding, riding the Segway, motor cycling, and anything dealing with future innovations. One of his most recent loves was the Tesla car. David is survived by his wife Colleen, their son Dallen and his wife Alyssa, his father Walt, brothers, Ryan and wife Stacey, Logan and companion Pat, and was preceded in death by his mother June. Funeral Services for David will be on Saturday January 22, 2022 at the Performing Arts Center at Barstow Community College beginning at 11:00 a.m. A public viewing will be held on Friday January 21, 2022 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 2571 Barstow Road in Barstow. Interment will take place at the family plot at a later date in the Rexburg Cemetery in Rexburg, Idaho.
